I was trying to get the old wiper switch in the door out, wasnt quite sure what i had to do. Do you have to take off the whole inside of the door to get it out? I tried removing all the screws in the black plastic piece and then pulling on it, but was scared that i might break the locking mechanism.
It's attached to the back of the little black trim panel. It's a major pain to get that trim piece in and out because it is so tight in there. Move the lock button to unlock and pull it out towards you- it snaps on the end of the L-shaped lock rod. make sure you get all the screws- 1 behind the handle, 2 at rear edge of trim, and one at the upper edge towards the front. There are also 2 that hold the light in place, put they need to stay in place. Pull gently starting at the lower rear of the trim. Push the lock rod to lock also. Pull the door handle out and flip the trim 90 degrees as it comes out to clear the handle.

I did that, the but it looked like the lock would break, so i dont have to worry about it breaking? I wiggled and wiggled that thing and it didnt want to come out.
If it hasn't been off in a while or ever, then it may be a little sticky. What you want to do is put the button in the forward (unlock) position, grasp the little handle with the ridges, and pull it towards you until it snaps off of the end of the rod. the end of the rod has a right angle on it which is about 3/8" from the end of the rod. This 3/8" section is inside the little handle (or tab) with ridges. It may help to pull with your left hand while you pry it out with a finger from behind with your right hand. It will snap off. The part behind the red tape on it has clips that are snapped onto the lock rod. These clips are what you are pulling against.
