can anyone who has a ripper shifter installed on there late lt1 6 speed car please clue me in. i bought this thing and can't seem to "tap" the pin out of the "gear shift rod" that goes into the tranny from the back of the car. i guy i know says that the tranny has to be dropped for this install. i wouldnt have bought it if i knew that. how did you all get yours in?
Hey man,
Don't worry. I just installed the Hurst Shifter and I had to do what you are talking about. I did not have to lower my 92 LT-1/6speed tranny. I got allot of help from my service manual and the Hurst instructions (good pictures). How far along are you?

"Tap" isn't exactaly the right word. You need to BEAT it out! But as said before, make sure that ring is out of the way or you may as well use the hammer on your own head!
i have tapped and tapped and beaten it with a 4 lb hammer too. that pin is not coming out! that is what has me so stumped. and yea that snap ring is way out of the way. i'm really stumped. i had the car tore apart except for getting this pin out. but had to put it back together since i had to drive it back to school this weekend. yea, 2hour install time. i was really looking forward to it too. heard nothing but good things about it
:U
yea it's the right pin. can anyone else tell me if they encountered this? i really would like to put it in. the shop says that it'll cost like $200 for them to install it. the only thing that is really keeping me from doing this install is that stupid drive pin. how exactly did you get it out? :cry :( :boxing
yea i had thought of it being only able to come out one way. so i got in the car and beat on the pin from the top. no dice. but please keep the suggestions coming. i am not paying $200 for some jackleg to put it in just cause he has a lift. please please please help me guys. thanks so much too! :grouphug:
