Want to replace the stock headers on my '86 convertable with 1 5/8" ones. Am most interested in good fit with the least amount of modification to existing parts such as dip stick and cat air tube. Would prefer stainless. Wasn't intending to replace stock ones but the mismatch between the port size on my new heads (Edelbrock) and the the stock tubes is too great. Must have all pollution control fittings.
I have a 92 LT-1 and my Hookers with Jet-Hot coating fit fine. The only thing I have to modify is the AIR tube, Had to shorten 3/4" and re weld. Oh, had to use 12pt header bolts because of tight fit.
Strick :chevy
PS, I went to stainless socket head 1" bolts for the header bolts, because of the thicker flange on the Hooker headers. The 3/4 ARPs were just too short for my aluminum heads. The socket head is perfect for torquing, lots of room. :steering:
see my signature for dyno numbers with long tubes.
Oops. I just read you must have all pollution control fittings. I know they make long tubes with AIR/EGR provisions, and you can buy a ypipe that will mate them into your stock cat converter. TPIS sells the long tubes you need.
I noticed the original question said "stainless steel." I know the SLP shorties are stainless. How many others are stainless steel, and what are they?
Are the SLP stainless any good?
