Default Slug 87 Roadster

My 87 roadster has no where near the performance my 85 coupe had. Though the 85 may have had a chip (I bought both cars used) I think the difference is rear end gears. Am I correct in assuming the 85 auto had a dana 44 3.08 gears & my 87 auto has the dana 36 2.57 gears. Anyone know the codes so I can check the console cover? And if so what do I need to change the 87s to 3.08s? A whole differential or can I just get gears.
Thanks
Bill

factory autos have the dana 36 rear, manuals had the 44. if you have a G44 or G92 code listed, then its a 3:07 rear, if not its the 2:59. you should be able to just change the ring and pinion, if you want to swap ratios.

Your 87 conv. should have 2.73:1 (GU2) as the base rear end. But it could have 3.07 (g44) or 2.59 (gm1)

In a Dana 36.
85 autos also had the D36 carrier. No automatics in the C4 line came with D44 carriers.

You might need a tune-up, or your butt just doesnt like the 2.59/2.73.

if it runs out of power at around 3000 rpm or so., it could be a clogged convertor. is it quiter than your other vette? take it to a muffler shop and have then drop the pipe in front of convertor.
