SYS light in the dash come on itermit.
Instead of showing my gas mileage in either inst. or average.. I have been getting an intermittent "SYS" coming on for maybe 15 to 30 seconds and going back to gas mileage. The car runs great. all the standard lights stayed on,,no apparent problem other than the light. Can someone tell me what that light might mean??

check your battery, mine just died, did the same thing.

did you put in an aftermarket cd player, that will also cause it to do that.
If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new stereo, he will need to do the following:
1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 Watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2-pack for 29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car.)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Mine had an aftermarket stereo in it when I got it 2 years ago. This is the first time for the symptom occurring. I have had issues with the negative wire that runs from the battery post to the aftermarket alarm but when it wigs out the car goes dead. So I dunno.. I'll check the battery in the am.

I guess I should have said more, it seems anytime there is a problem in the electrical system, the SYS light comes on. It doesn't mean that just the battery is bad.
When I first got my car it would show the "SYS" anytime I turned on the interior lights, turned out I had a blown fuse. Put a new fuse in and the "SYS' went away.

Usally happens to me when I don't run the car for long periods of time, not just start it but put some highway miles on it ...after a nice ride everything goes back too normal. :yesnod: :chevy

sweet, thanks for the fix i just left my sys light blinking after i put in the new stereo, i'm going to have to fix that. :cheers:

does anyone elses digital readout hang up from time to time? sometimes i have to give the dash a quick smack then it comes back working again, i know its kinda ghetto to do that but I dont know what it is ;)

Mine has been sittin awhile.. Just the occasional startup and move out of the driveway.. I will drive it awhile and see what I get.

Mine did the same thing when the car wouldn't start on Sunday. I am hoping it's just the battery. I'll know for sure when I replace mine sometime this week.
