Default Need Help On Boost Levels!

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen:

I just acquired a used Carrol Supercharger Kit for my 1995 LT-1 with a rebuilt Paxton SN-93 centrifugal blower unit. The kit does include an MSD boost retard for ignigtion and a macrofueler. Here's my problem: Since the engine is an already highly modified 383, part of a DRM 450 package, I am currently on a compression ratio of between 11 and 11.2:1

 What level of boost (4/5/6 lbs) would be save to run?

Thanks.
Michael

Damn that is high compression I would go maybe like 5 lbs? Or if you race in Denver 8psi should be good depending on detonation...and cooling? Do you have an after cooler or air-to-air cooler or just running it straight?

Paxton don't really make that much boost, either a maximum of 5-7 psi or 8-10psi if equiped with high output impeller. 11:1 is a lot compression though, I would try to run around 5 psi, but I would be careful and definately keep a watch full eye on a scan tool. You make need to run less boost though.

As for how much boost your will be running depends on how free flowing your motor is, your RPM range, how the pulleys are geared. A normal impeller would probably make 5psi on your motor, becuase of how free flowing the motor is, (this is a good thing, because you are moving more air)

Paxton are geared at 4.4:1 internally and have a redline of 38000 rpm. My corvette has a 7.2" crank pulley and 4.25 supercharger gear.

For instance 7.2 x 5000rpm x 4.4/4.25 put my SC rpm at 37270 rpm at redline.

I don't have a real experince with blowers and high CR, so you may want to look further than my advice. I know c5 can 5-6 psi with a high 10:1 CR.

My 2 cents...I would not run any boost with that high of CR. Forged or not ,,you will be rebuilding!!!!

I would call DRM and ask them what they think. I'm sure they've messed with your setup enough to tell you.

 Thanks to all who took the time to answer my question.

I just received the Carrol/Paxton kit yesterday and it looks a lot more intricate than I had first thought. Based on what I read in the instructions, at CarrolSuperchargers online, and with what I was told by Peter at DRM I have decided the following:

1. I will start the season with other modifications:
a. A CRV electric waterpump to reduce engine drag & improve yellow flag cooling efficiency.
b. An R&D Racing Camberbrace to improve cornering stability.
c. Offset lower control arm bushings from Vette Brakes & Products to increase negative camber between 0.25 & 0.75 degress and therefore increase conrnering speed by 0.5-1.5 Mph.
d. New WilWood cross drilled rotors for my GN III front brake system.
e. PFC 01 compound pads front / PFC 90 compound pads rear.

2. I'll review the whole supercharger idea with the folks at Carrol's and very likely add a gaseous intercooling system even though I will not excees 5psi of boost once I decide to go forward with the installation. I have alreday determined that between my existing 30 pound injectors and the three additional injectors, also 30 pounds each (part of the macrofueler system), running lean should not be a problem. This will be confirmed by the air/fuel ratio monitor I am about to install.

3. I'll just have to drive faster without extra power. (1. b. & c. should help)

 Thanks Again,
