Cranked her up for the first time today after som more or less big changes on the engine (pistons, heads, cam etc.).
She started right up with the sweetest sound ever (true duals, muffler elims.).
Took her out for a spin and noticed that the spedometer is flickerin up and down. Suddenly, when i come to a stop, STALL !!! Started her up again and gave her som revs, same thing STALL. When i put a gear in STALL.
I had this same type of problem whith the speedomeeter last summer when it was very hot outside then the problem could be solved by ventilating the engine and popping the hood but she has NEVER died on me before.
Could it be a bad ECM ????
I really need some info here
hmm, not sure if this will help.
I had a crazy speedo and it turned out to be my spark plug wires. I had them ran behind the valve cover and below the wiper motor (drivers side) somehow this was enterfearing with the speedo signal (jumping around while standing still). I don't know if this would cause it to stall though (I rerouted them before driving it).

:nonod:
I don't really think that's the problem.
I have checked everything including the wires.
I suspect the problem could be ECM related and I'm really out of ideas...
Who could help me whith this ??
Re: Speedomeeter crazy and engine stall (nobodyunknown)
Everything is as I left it before i lifted out the engine.
Maybe iI have forgotten a cable or something ??
I'm so frustrated with this POS :banghead: :banghead:
check the timing again. maybe the distributor is moving (it can happen) and the speedo jumping is a seperate and unrelated problem.
since that has happened before the new parts without stalling.
valve lash too tight maybe?
accidently knock off a vacume line? (some around the distributor)
probably something simple.
yep, valve lash.
if its too tight then a valve could be slightly open all the time.
I personally hate trying to adjust hyd cam setups, the only way that seems to work is to do it while the motor is running (really messy). if the valves are too tight then you would be hearing a miss/rough idle, this would be less noticeable at higher rpm's.
I saw in your other post that the IAC was cleaned. that would be something to check for proper function, I have heard that the internal's of the IAC can be effected by cleaning solutions. also there is a process for setting the IAC that should be followed after reinstalling/replacing the IAC (follow manual, or there may be a post on the forum somewhere).
I can't really belive that this would be the case it just dont sound like that, but ok, I will check it out and at the same time pop in a new IAC..
I'll keep you posted on the subject.
Tnx..
Just found this. If you haven't fixed it yet look into the wire harnesses at the back of the engine. They some times get pinched when changing things around. A broken wire may not be cut all the way through it will look good but when pulled apart on either side of the break it comes apart. (isn't cut through the insulation) so the broken ends touch and move toghether and apart with vibration, stress, heat expansion. This is one hard to find thing!
Finland,
You really need to hook some diagnostic tools up to your engine before trying to start it. There are a few things that could be causing the problem. Sometimes a shorted battery will allow the engine to be started, but almost immediately it will put such a large load on the alternator that it stalls the engine. Another problem that can cause them engine to stall is if the EGR valve hangs open. It kills your vacuum. Install a vacuum gauge on the engine and try to determine if you have adequate vacuum while it is running.
Lastly, I have seen coils do the same thing you have described. Coils can function perfectly until they are put under heavy load, then they break down. They often times will short to ground.
Seeing as how the digital display tends to flicker when this all happens ~ I have to guess that the two are not coincidental. My logic says pursue all electrical thoughts first. My $.02 worth of opinion is that the problem is in the ignition system ...... i.e. coil failure, coil ground.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Went back and read your mods...... I would get rid of all aftermarket BS and go back to stock components and see if the problem goes away. It seems that I read a lot of threads where the MSD ignition components are causing problems.
