My heavily modified 90 roadster produced 366 RWHP on the dyno on a hot, muggy day. My motor is naturally aspirated but has all the goodies: cam, heads, intake componants, ignition and other toys way too numerous to mention, no cost spared here. I've never been to the track, my insurance won't cover racing, unfortunately; but I've beaten stock C5's no problem on the street, especially on the low end. I haven't raced a ZO6 yet, but I know they're very fast. Would I be able to hold my own in my suped up 90' or am I due to be embarassed by one of these new beasts?
366 rwhp. thats alot, but remember the 02 zo6's should make 350 or so. Teh z06 weighs maybe 200lbs less, and has aggressive gearing in the m12 tranny. Your insurance doesnt cover track events, umm i dont think 99% of companies do. If you have the nerve to play on the street, then you should be looking forward to the track not to mention going. 1/4 mile tracks.. god how dangerous are they? pressing the gas and keeping the wheel straight... lol it aint dangerous.
Most people go to the track to play it safe... and if your company ever found out you were involved in street racing, good luck getting any $$ back if anything bad happens.
Agreed on the street racing thing...a lot of insurance companies will drop you instantly if you get a street racing ticket. I don't have personal experience with it, but have friends who do.
On the insurance thing, there are a lot of insurance companies that will cover track incidents IF the event is considered a high speed driver's education event and not a lapping event. If it's considered DE, they consider it to be the same as a defensive driving deal...it's driver training.
as a general rule once you can run CONSISTANTLY under 12.1 second 1/4" mile E.T. youll have almost every car on the road beat, thats what youll need, theres lots of vipers,Zo6s and cobras out there that run 12.4-12.6 on street tires but the competition drops off fast as you get under 12.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile . theres lots of cars that can run 11.7-11.9 on the track that can,t come close to a true 11 second run on street tires through the mufflers, most Zo6s are mid 12 second cars on the street. besides on the street youll seldom do more than play with the other guy for a few hundered feet and normally never break 80mph if you have any brains, and youll never even try with other cars or side streets in the area as its just to damn dangerious, which limits you to passing and playing on deserted interstates or limited access roads.
owning a really fast vette is like owning a super accurate long range rifle, "its neat to have, youll love playing with it but the places and times that you can use it to its full potential are very rare due to safety issues and limited too places that are designed for there us"
Z's are a rolling can of whoopass so be careful. :) I've run a Z06 from about 50 to 155 and he had 3.5-4 cars on me when he let off (322rwhp for me at the time). I don't know anything about the car or even if it was a 385 or 405hp version with any mods. He just sorta came up on me on the highway and we went for it.

As others have stated, the 405 HP Z06 is a pretty serious go fast. My experience with one came as I was being midly spanked by a pretty strong '01 (with 4:11 gears, headers, breathless intake). The stone stock ZO6 we were crusing with passed us both at an easy 15 MPH closure rate at 140+.
I've held my own against stock C-5's but my LT4 is simply no match for the Z06. Maybe with the extra horses, you can compete. Give it a try is all I can say.

It would be a close race I think. I have ran one 2002 ZO6 from a 70 mph kick. By the time I was at 130 I had about 12 car lengths on him,,,but I have some money under the hood also.
I haven't lost to a Z06 yet in the 1/4. They are coming on pretty hard at the line but just don't get there first. :D Anything much beyond that and I'd have to give it to the Z.
I called up my State Farm auto insurance agent and he said that I am covered at the Race track just like I would be covered at a parking lot. It's private land and you are driving on it. If an accident occurs you should be covered, He said if I blow my engine or break my trany or such I'm not covered for that. :nonod:
If it's a test and tune you should be covered. The policy usually states that there is no coverage for an "organized racing event". So, you'd be technically covered for a test and tune but not bracket racing. If you made a claim you'd probably get cancelled afterwards though.
