To replace the mast the entire assembly must be removed from the car first. It helps if you remove the wheel and tire for easier access. After you have disasembled the motor do not forget to remove both pieces of the broken mast.
Good day,
Although I have heard some will remove the rear license plate, then the back up light housing, then the inboard brake light housing, then the outboard brake light housing, then reach in...I just recently replaced the power antenna on my 1990 convertible and I did it this way:
Jack up the left side, remove the left rear wheel, remove the plastic inner fenderwell, reached up from below (just inside body) and removed the motor entirely. I am no mechanic and I guess I spent about 2 hours to complete the job. The power antenna motor was about $155 Canadian (approximately $100 US) and purchased at a "trade" discount at my local GM dealer. Inventory is in good supply.
Good luck!
