Took my 85 out yesterday drove around a while and stoped to eat. After leaveing the food place it seemed to run rough and was idleing real fast. Stopped at a friends house to vist. Came out about an hour later and it wouldn't start. Call a buddy to bring my trailer. 30 minutes later he got there, and I thought what the heck and it started, but it was idleing at 1900.Even after backing the screw out it only came down to 1300. So I drove it on the trailer. Got home 40 minutes later and it wouldn't start. Got my tractor out and pulled it in the shop. Still will not start this morning. Just cranks. Alittle history. New (stock) motor about 200 miles on it, new injectors, IAC , MAT. Where would you start?
MAF sensor? Get the car running, while it's running quirky disconnect the MAF sensor or tap on its' base to see if the is a difference. Or it could be it's relays
Check for any codes, first, of course. Then, and this may not be your case but it was with my 85, check the battery. Mine idled funny, ran a little rough, even had dash lights flicker. I also went through strange start-non start episodes, with no codes set. I could also suggest spark and fuel sources, the usual with starting problems. Taking into account the new motor, the trouble shooting could become complex. Good luck! :seeya
I'd start by checking all the vacuum lines for cracks or looseness Did the timing advance? Distributor tight? Any other vacuum leaks. You shouln'dt have to touch the idle screw. Did you reset it after you backed it off? Won't idle if you left it backed off all the way if you found a problem.
