My windshield is pitted and driving into the sun is hard to see. Has anyone tried to have the windshield replaced under their insurance for this? I know it is no problem if cracked. Anyone have any luck with trying to polish some of it out? Thanks in advance.
Re: Windshield replacement for pitting? (oldace84)
If you take it to a windshield place and they say it is not repariable (which they probably will), the insurance will pick up the tab. I guess it depends on your state insurance laws, but I could get a new one in my state.
It depends on your insurance. My insurance does not send out anyone to look at my glass. They just take ;my word for it. I wait ed until I took a rock. It was only 1 inch fromthe top and side, still in the black, not in the viewing area. They took my word for it. Repair man said it was repair able, I said replace. Do argument.
Just call them and tell them you took a rock and it is now pitted. Do not tell them is is sand blasted. They will give you the name sof several glass shops. You just choose who you want.
Just tell them it is cracked and they will give you a few shops to choose from.
The replacement company doesn't care if you want it replaced, they'd rather replace it anyways.
Make sure you use a reputible shop and that they use GM rubber mouldings.
By the way if you want to buff out the pitting in the shield with cerium oxcide and the buffing wheel from MAD, feel free. It will take you the rest of your natural life to do it and you'll probably crack the windshield if you aren't very experienced in buffing glass.
