1 just bought my first vette. an 89 convert. all stock no mods. 84000 miles on it. we have been trying to figure out a hesitation or lag at about 1600-1900 rpm only while driving. feels like the fuel shuts off. when the lag occurs there is not response. have to step on the gas several times to correct then it runs fine. of course not all the time. car has only been driven about 3000 miles in the past 5 years. i put a fresh tank of super, octane booster and injector cleaner and still same problem. i just put a new fuel filter on tonight and still the same. of course the dealer could not duplicate and there were not codes when they smogged it last week.
somebody from the forum told me to use a paper clip and count the ses light flashes. i did that tonight and got a quick double flash and then a slow flash 21 times. i did it again and got 10 flashes. i need help making sense of flashes. i might not be doing something right. i tried it with the car running and off. any help would be great. dealer suggests servicing the fuel injectors. :auto:
Here is a recommendation for you: go to Auto Zone and ask for a code key as they are free! Put this key into the A & B ALDL locations before you turn on the ignition key. Location A & B will be the upper right two holes on your ALDL connector. Turn on the ingition to the run position...do not start the engine! The SES light should flash 1...2 and then give you any codes. Send me an email if you have questions! I have a 89 and have learned a lot about my car!
If you do, it's not going to blow up, dematerialize, melt, vaporize, or recrystalize into a eutectic structure. It will just go into a field service mode, usually with fixed timing and a few other parameters. Better worded as "Don't drive for long distances with the ALDL jumpered". Good luck, and the code you were getting was probably a 12, not a 21. You think GMs are hard to read with the SOS-style, you should try keeping track of Ford codes :D -85Y
