I just purchased my first Vette, and am wanting to do a head/cam swap. I have a 92 coupe and know that it is a speed-density setup and am wondering how you guys are tuning with the SD cars.
I have been modding turbo buicks for the last 8 years and have had a couple of 11 sec. buicks and 1 10 second turbo trans am. I am not a newbie when it comes to hotrodding, but am new to the Vette scene. :D

For my '92, I decided to go with a custom FastChip from Ed Wright. I'm a programmer; but, I decided for $300 that I couldn't compete with that for a single vehicle -- especially, when you consider that he has tested many combinations on a dyno that I can't do. A lot of R&D effort goes into something like that. If it were a hobby or something, where money didn't matter, it would be an interesting project.
So, for my modified '92, that was the wisest choice -- I'm very happy with his chip.

You'll need some data logging software, there are several to choose from.
Datamaster, EASE, Diacom, etc. Then you'll need something to edit the program with, Tunercat or possibly LT1 edit (don't know if it works with the chips)
Then you'll need a chip burner as well.
You can find a bunch of info in the C4 scan & tune section

Try http://www.pcmforless.com Alvin Anderson is really knowledgeable on Speed Density setups. And the kicker is, its only $150.00 with 6 months of free updates. :yesnod:

Tom - I'm also a programmer and have been seriously contemplating purchasing the equipment to do the programming. I can't imagine that it's all that hard to do. The most challenging thing will be to become intimately familiar with all of the sensors and controls (and of course, manipulating them). I agree with you about the dyno - too bad they're so darn expensive!
