Not a problem at all.
My 383 uses stock block. No reason to goto a 4 bolt at all. If you plan on making CRAZY power, then use your 2 bolt and get it splayed (make it a 4 bolt, but the outer bolts are in at an angle compared to straight down, claimed alot stronger then normal 4bolt).
Only reason I would tell anyone to not go 383, is if they went bigger :D
2 bolt blocks are fine,as stated above as long as your not going to go crazy there ok,i used to spin my 327 to 7000 with stock internals(forged pistons) with solid cam for several years.Ive built several 383 2 bolt motor that handled alot .
I have a 383 LT1 under construction using an f-body block (which is only two bolt). It's making me crazy not to upgrade, but I can't talk the engine builder into doing it. He says it's simply not necessary.
many professional competition engine builders will not use a stock 4 bolt block. reason being is there isnt enough material above the outer bolts & drilling the extra holes further weakens it. matter of fact , most say to use a 2 bolt with studs.. for extreme high horsepower, splayed is the only option.
