Am I missing something!!!!!??? - Skip shift
Trying to instll the skip shift eliminator and for the life of me can't get my hands to the connectors! I was able to disconnect the factory plug (barely) but can't get in there it put the kit in.
A) Any tips on how to get in there?
B) What harm is there in driving with it just disconnected?

Tips no
Harm connectors become oxidized and fouled. Possible ripped or torn over time, all around a bad idea to just let hang or wrap and hang. Others will chime in

I know its a pain to reach the connectors, but jack up the car as high as you can get it and get your body under there and reach as far as you can. It took a couple of deep breaths and long arms to make the reach, but i finally got it!! Trust me, its worth it when you get there!!

Thanks for the replies. I got it! I jsut had to wiggle around until I got my rigth hand in a position to get some leverage. Your right, worth the scraped knuckles.

Just in case...
Have you tested to verify you disconnected the correct connector? The CAGS connector is on the left side of the transmission and is pretty easy to reach.
The "difficult to reach" connector on the left side of the transmission (front, up near the top) is for the reverse lights.

Jim,
I did test and it seemed to be the right one. I tried to make it come on and couldn't. I'll have the check the reverse lights to makse sure I got the right sensor!
The diagram in the kit only had three sensors identified on the left and the reverse lights were not one of them. As for not being able to reach it, once I crawled in from the other part of the car, it was a piece of cake. Just had to be able to get my right hand in there!

Re: HELP!! Am I missing something!!!!!??? - Skip shift (LT-4 CE)
I checked the back-up lights and they are gone, so I must have put the skip shift eliminator in the wrong place. The diagram with my kit made no mention of the BU lights, only indicated the Skip Shift solenoid, Vehicle Speed Sensor, and the Reverse Lockout Solenoid. From the diagram the only one i could have replace with the eliminator IS the skip shift. I drove the car for about 25 minutes after installing and could not make the skip shift come on, so I thought I had it. No I have no reverse lights.
THis is way to simple of an install to be giving this frustration!
Re: HELP!! Am I missing something!!!!!??? - Skip shift (LT-4 CE)
There's no reverse lock-out solenoid that I'm aware of on the ZF6. On the dirver's side of the tranny there are three "electrical items". From front to rear: reverse lights switch, CAGS solenoid, VSS.
Since you can't force the CAGS to activiate, it would appear you've installed that correctly. This indicates your reverse lights may not have been working for some time. To check, pop the connector off the reverse lights switch (left front top of the tranny). Use a jumper wire between the two terminals in the connector. Check the reverse lights. If they're lit, the switch is loose or bad. Verify the switch is tight & recheck. If the lights still fail to illuminate, remove the switch and replace. Sometimes you can dink around with the switch (cleaning it, etc) and get it work but it usually fails again. For $25 it's easier to just replace it and save the aggrevation.
If the reverse lights fail to light when jumpering the connector, you have a wiring problem to troubleshoot :(
