Default Shift indicator

I need some help. I drive a 91' Coupe with Auto transmission. The previous owner told me when I bought the car that he changed the gear ratio from the stock 3:07 to a 3:73. At least thats what I think he said. Anyway, when I am driving I can feel the tranny shift from gear to gear, however, at 60 MPH and above the shift "up" indicator comes on. Why is this? The transmission changed all gears on the way to 60. Do I need to change the ECM or something else? Can the dealership do this, is it difficult to do? Please help.
Thank you for your support.

You have your choice of two ways to fix this.
First, the gear ration change is NOT causing this to happen.

Somewhere in your Vettes' life, someone changes either the transmission OR the 4th gear pressure switch in the transmission to a N.O (normally open) type switch. I believe the 4th gear pressure switch should be the N.C. (normally closed) type switch.

Here's the choices to keep tghe "Shift" light out, as it should be;

1) Order the correct 4th gear switch and install it in place of the one you now have inside your transmission. You'll have to pull the tranny pan to change it.
This is probably the cheaper and best way as it'll give you a good chance to change the fluid and filter in your transmission.

2) There is a parameter (oddly called a "switch" itself) in the MemCal calibration that allows you to select whether the 4th gear switch is N.O or N.C.
You could burn another chip and change that parameter.

Either of these will work.
There is a THIRD choice. Not one I would want to do but "to each their own".
You "could" take the shift light bulb out.
There's really no good reason not to do this other than it's a lazy,nasty way to "fix" something... Do it right or just don't do it at all.

Edit: I'd swear I was Chinese after reading this post.
Ah, Shoud have used spe;l cheka.

VETNUTJIM, Thanks for the help. Sounds complicated I wish I was more machnically inclined. I'll have to take it to the shop. I do appreciate your help.
