Default 1987 timing indicator

I searched archives but can't find anything on this matter. When assembling my motor this winter, I noticed that the timing indicator on the cover did not appear to be square to the centerline of the engine. Thinking that the previous owner had blown a chain and distorted the cover, I checked but could find no damage marks. Is this the way the indicator sits on all Corvette covers? It appears as if it could make a difference of about 4 degrees to the timing. Thanks.

The only way to make sure that I can think of right now is to bring #1 to TDC with a dial indicator and align the zero mark on the tab. If the heads are on, I can't think of any method that will be exacta mundo.....Good luck!

I guess I should have thought of this before I assembled, but of course I was hell bent to get it running. In retrospect, there was no rush as it has been sitting now for 6 weeks waiting for good weather.
