I think you can get away with a small strip at the top like the factory tint. Obviously you wouldn't want to do the entire windshield :D
If your glass is covered under your insurance you can allways have an "accident" :blueangel:
You may have to pay the difference to get the top tint version but.....

You can tint the winsheild. They have films now that are UV blocking that have no shading, 100% light transmitting just no UVs get through.just get closest thing.
The rear hatch is not too difficult. I did my 84. put film on outside and wet cling to window, trim it close but leave a slight over hang. Heat it gently to conform. Remove the hatch and prep it good(defroster lines are a biotch). It is easy to do on the floor with hatch upside down and no struts on it. Be super careful torquing the struts back on youll twist up the tint.
