Default HELP! Transmission filter assistance needed soon.

My trans filter will not go up as far as I think it should. I've seen remarks that it should go up to the valve body, but my replacement from discount Auto is either just above or touching the pan. Yes, I pulled the old filter ring out. How far up should it go and how do you get it there without beating on the filter?

It's a tight fit, I've changed mine a few times and what you say sounds right to me. There was very little clearance between the filter body and the pan but they did not touch. I've put a lot of street & race miles on it and never had a problem. Good luck.

It's ok for the filter to touch the pan.
Actually it's a good thing.
The filter neck is plastic and having the bottom og the filter housing rest on the bottom of the pan gives it support.
There USED to be a small bracket that provided that support but GM took that off.
Touching the pan won't hurt a thing.
