Default GUAGES GUAGES GUAGES!!!

O.k. I need direction. I want to know as much about what's going on with my S/C setup as possible. If I'm not mistaken the guages I will need are: Air fuel ratio guage (not sure exactly what this is called) Fuel Pressue Guage, Boost Guage, aaaannnd I think I'm forgetting one other important one.

Anybody, everybody, please give me tips on brand names, part numbers, prices, purchase locations, and current setups w/ pics, I can never get too much info.

P.S. I want to run an Autometer pod on the A-Arm.

Thanks in advance!!!!

The only two you really need are Fuel Pressure and Boost IMO. The air/fuel is not worth the space (although I have one and use it for reference only). The EGT is nice if you can get a sensor for each exhaust tube, or I assume it works well at the collector as well.

:iagree: I would rather spend my money on a Wide O2 set up than spend my money on a inaccurate AFR guage. If I had a choice I would rather spend my money on a EGT than an Air fuel gauge.

Depends on what look you want. Do you want white faced gauges with black bezels, white face with brushed aluminum bezels, black face with black bezels, digital, or whatever else you can dream up?

I use the Autometer phantom series gauges. They are white faced with black bezels. The utlralite series (Autometer) has the aluminum bezel and white faces.

I get most of my stuff like this from Summit Racing. (www.summitracing.com)

I found an autometer pod for the A-arm but it only holds 2 guages. Is that all Autometer has? If that's all I can put on the A-Arm, where else can I put my guages?

Just to clarify something here. When I said AFR gauge I meant one that uses a wideband o2. If your trying to tune an engine without one IMO you're wasting your time!

I like the V.D.O gauges because they have an all business look and don't bother with the extra colors.

Yep, the dual pod is the most in a single part. Others have bought the dual and the single and modified the single where it matches up correctly with the dual pod as if it were 3. I added a gauge pod in front of my stock tach too for my minitach. I had posted a picture back in November or Decmember but can't find it now. Other places that have room for a small gauge are the center console plate under the AC controls.

I would not go gauge happy. Just get what you need to start and if you find you need something more, get it after the fact.

So you guys are aaaaabolutely sure I don't need an AFR to tune the car for an s/c ???? If not, I'll just stick with boost and Fuel pressure.

Will this boost guage fit the autometer pod? I like the look of the black face. I think the white dial will stick out better of my periferal vision.

BTW: Chris, do you live in Gurnee or Texas???

Not unless you plan on forking over the dough for a wideband setup which runs around $500, or $250 in parts if you build it yourself.

The gauge you selected is 2 5/8". You need to look at the 2 1/16" gauges for the Autometer pod.

BTW: Chris, do you live in Gurnee or Texas???
Both really. Have a nice house, a cat, a wife, and a Corvette in Texas. Have a 1-br apartment and a job in Gurnee through September. Get to spend about every other weekend at home in Texas and the rest of the time I am stranded in the Land of Lincoln.

That's too bad. I thought I might be able to see that vette of yours around here. Maybe you should drive it up some time. :yesnod: :yesnod:

You know, Autometer's site sucks. Why don't the link off of the pod section the gauges you can actually put in the damn thing. I guess it doesn't matter. Any 2 1/16" gauge should fit. I'll give them a call.

I have thought about bringing it up, but the company pays for the plane ticket and rental. I do not have a garage or tools to store the Vette or handle problems that may arise up here either which is almost a necessity. Biggest problem is getting it up here safely and taking that time out. :seeya

I got two words for you "Truck" and "Trailer" YeeeeHaaaw!!!

Anyway, I think I'm finally settled on the gauges. Autometer pod #10191, Boost gauge #2616, Electric Fuel Pressue #2663 + misc. parts. They recommend remote mounting the fuel pressue sending unit off of their braided line #3227-4 and then connecting that to the shrader on the fuel rail. I also might need a 90 degree elbow #3274 to the shrader valve to the braided line. I also need to remove the valve stem on the shrader. I think I'm pretty set.

I'm assuming I just have to "T" in somewhere for the boost Gauge.

I went with three guages:

1. A liquid filled fuel pressure guage mounted on the fuel rail. Get the Summit brand one - the Accel one is JUNK!!!
2. A Vacuum / boost guage on an a-pillar pod
3. Don't waste your money on a regular air/fuel ratio guage - they are worthless. If you got the $$$ and the need, you have to get a wide band or you may as well do without.

Thought about that too, but the wife has been driving the Tahoe. Plus no place to put my trailer when it got here :D. I have an excuse for everything ;).

I bet your about 25 years old. Go with the fuel gauge and the boost gauge if only to fill the hole. Keep in mind the pillar is out of your direct line of sight. When your in 1st and 2nd gear it's hard enough just holding on to the steering wheel and keeping the car straight much less looking at gauges. The 1 1/2 seconds to glance over at and analize the gauges can put you off the road. Also, at night with the gauges properly lighted its even harder to read the numbers. The gauges however do indeed look impressive. :jester
