Well guys, I spent about 7 hours and I had to stop because i didn't have the hoist yet. I believe it's ready to be yanked out, I left the tranny on and we'll see. I was taking my sweet time about everything and kept haveing to run to the bench for new tools every two minutes. If I had done it before it would have taken me quiet a bit less. Well, it's a learning experience, but it's not over yet, I got the hoist yesterday and a chain today. I hope it comes out nice and simple. Any tips on how to balance and engine and tranny togther??? where to put the bolts maybe?
Did you take the hood off? I'm hoping you didn't because I'm worried about taking the hood off and putting a ding in it. Besides, where would you store the hood so it doesn't get dinged? I'll be doing this next year. Keep us informed.
I did pull the hood, it's just easier to have it out of the way. If I wasn't pulling the tranny with it I wouldn't have worried about it, but with the tranny I think you need the extra room. As for storage, mine is sitting in the middle of my living room. No joke, I moved the coffee table and set it down on some drop cloths. I'm more worried about putting it on right and getting it ligned up again. But I marked the screws so it should be ok.
getting the hood back on is a trick a 3 person job, two to hold it from the sides, and one to run around and get the hinges back into the mounting studs, once this is done and the nuts are on finger tight its just a matter fo realigning your marks and tightening the nuts then closing it and checking it and readjusting as needed! not a big job once the bolts are on though! so tell what happened, i am still trying to find out!
lcvette, sorry, the turbo thing got mounted ok and everything, but since it was only half of the system it didn't really create any boost. I was thinking of doing a cross over pipe or finishing the second side, but then I noticed how low I was running on oil after shooting the nitrous. On a hunch I brought it to the shop and did a leak down test on it. Yep, its shot. we tested 4 cylenders one was a 90% two were at 80% and one was at 50%. So it's time for a rebuild. low-compression 383 fully forged and I think I'm going to run it N/A until I get enough money to finish off the second half. I'll be able to run a 250HP nitrous shot out of my current set up even though the engine will handle twice that. I think it'll be ok for a temp set up until I can afford to finish off the rest of it.
But the engine is out with the tranny, I'm getting both rebuilt in one very foul, very expensive swoop. I even had to refinance my carloan to swing it. It should be interesting when it's all done.
Take alot of notes on where everything goes....take plenty of pic's....
Give yourself plenty of time.......20 20 hindsight...Have a trusted friend to help. This is a "BIG" job.....and don't drink and pull, HA..HA..
Good Luck

Re: How long to pull an engine??? (CentralCoaster)
I left it on and pulled the exhaust manifolds and used the bolts there. It seemed to work just fine. I put one chain on the furthest back and one on the rear of the middle exhaust port and it ballanced just fine getting it out, but that was with the tranny on it.
