Default Gutting CAt?

I believe my main cat is getting clogged starting to hear rattle , I just had muffs eliminated and am wondering how do i gut the cat or can it be replaced with just pipe, and how will it effect the performance/sound of my car? :grouphug: :seeya

It is simple to just remove the cat and break out the catalyst. Although replacing it with pipe would help exhaust flow! Be ready for a very LOUD exhaust note. Possible performance gains, not much though.

Best of luck

I think the performance gain on LT1 cars is up to debate judging by responses I've read on here, but I definitly don't think it could hurt. I can tell you for sure that there is a decent gain on L98 cars. :yesnod:

I just did mine on my '84, it was only a little bit louder. I used a 1 inch spade bit on my cordless drill, worked great. Mine runs better and is getting better mileage, but it was plugged pretty good. :smash:

Just gutted mine last Tuesday. In my case it is a lot louder. My cat was plugged pretty good though. If yours is plugged, you'll get a VERY noticeable increase in power.

:iagree: I dont have cats in my car, Its not anywhere near loud at idle, but kinda wakes up when I get on it... Or so im told by my friends, Inside the car is seems pretty quiet. They say its not LOUD but it sounds like there is some power coming out of there and sounds really good

thanks for the replies, as soon as this snow stops coming down I'm going to try to get it into our Base Hobby shop and see if I can get some help getting that thing off Might try the muffler shop but it was kinda hard just to find one to do the elims don't know if they will do the cat elim. If I put in straight pipe isn't the O2 sensor located in the main cat can if so do i just have that cut into the new pipe? thanks again. :seeya :chevy
