Default rough idle

Hello everyone,

What would cause a rough idle 30 seconds after starting the car ('92 LT1). The car tends to run rough for a few minutes right after starting as it warms up. When it reaches a certain temperature it smooths out. The car runs great otherwise. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gary

Also, check your ground wire, may be 'cold' (oxidized).

When it was cold or damp I had an extremely poor idle, would stall when I would come to a complete stop sometimes. When the car was floored, it would completely lose power. The voltage gague would jump around. I checked every possible ground and everything seemed fine, but the ground from the battery to the engine block was green, so was the ground strap bolted to the trans bellhousing. I did not believe there was ignition problems because the opti and coil were brand new (< 1k miles).

What I did was added an additional ground, to the drivers side frame to the battery and added another on the passenger side (rear manifold stud, to the frame). Adding those grounds completely solved all the issues with the car, no jumping guages, extremely smooth idle; felt like a brand new car.

Check the grounds first, only $5 to replace. Hopefully that 's the problem.

good luck

If it were the injectors would there be any other signs of problems. It only happens when the car is cold and lasts for about a minute or two

Interestingly enough, the air pump runs for 120 seconds on start up. Might have something askew in the plumbing/check valves or the air pump itself. You should be able to hear it running, very front corner on the drivers side.
