Well looks like I am gonna finally get to a track to test this engine out! Corky, Dad, and I are heading to Keystone Raceway outside of Pittsburgh for Sundays Test & Tune.
I have a few items I need to take care of tomorrow, but its all pretty easy.
Something I did want to ask if anyone knew off the top of their heads....
I have nearly a whole tank of gas 94 octane, did not think I was gonna get to a track for the next couple of weeks. Anyways I have to get all the gas out of the car so I can replace it with race gas, Corky pulls the shrader valve off the fuel rail/attaches a hose to it and then jumper his relay. Not sure if they are the same configuration, and wanted to know if anyone knew off the top of their heads how to energize the fuel pump via the ALDL. Not sure if the helms manual specifies how to do such a hing or not.
Also, what kind of times you think I'll run? If I get a mid to low 11s I will be happy. I still have to work on my exhaust and traction I think is gonna be an issue.
why dont you run an external fuel pump and just suck fuel from were you fill up !! we do that several times like that ,just run a regular fuel pump with 12v and put the sucktion pipe all to the bottom of the tank and pour it into some cans !! that should work !! and you don`t have to mess with the vette !!
you should do lo 11`s :chevy good luck !!
Couple of things....figured out how to get the gas out, very easy. WEnt to autozone and picked up two things. 1. shrader valve tool to remove the valve off the fuel raid, too about 1 minute. 2. 7' of transmission coolant line (guy gave it to me for free, since I am a regular :D )
Got home pulled the valve out, and pushed the 3/8" rubber tranny cooler line down over the nipple. Then ran a wire from the + terminal on the battery to the lower left most post on the Aldl. That will kick the power on to the pump. With that the gas started flowing. I had a full tank too. Filled all my gas cans, till it started to sputter. Put everything back to normal.
Filled the tank with the race gas ~5gal.
Then took it down the road to my testing grounds, about 1/2 mile straight away. With the race trim on, I gave it hell after testing a few time to make sure the knock was gone. It seemed to take care of it. I ran it through the pretty much a total 1/4 but left off well before my marker when it hit 115! I still had about another couple hunder feet to go to my measured marker! And it was still pulling like I have never felt before. My 350 was lucky to hit 100 at that marked spot, so it was pretty close to what MPH the 1/4 should be with reference to mph based on the 350 setup. Its awesome to feel WOT without any detonation.
My AFR was just as I planned, since I could never keep it or even close to WOT to see where it was....It ran from 12.6-12.8 through the run. Pretty decent for a start.
