I guess I'll be the first to tell you...you need to be more specific as to what you want to do with the car. Just 'make some power' is a pretty broad statement.

How much do you want to spend, what kind of power are you looking for and where (RPMs) are you looking to make it?

Once you can put some goals down, these guys willl set you up. I will suggest you do some research on your own to make the final decisions because you're going to get a lot of different opinions, all of it probably good advice but maybe not all of it right for you.

Since you live in CA installing LT headers may not be possible, unless your Vette is registered out of state.

But you can pick up some extra punch by doing a little work on an A4 and maybe gears.

Default L98 Performance Pick ?????????'s

A 219,super ram, good set of heads, gears(3.07-3.45) and a convertor would do nicely.

In CA, the Lingenfelter Superram is CARB legal, probably the Accel 219 cam too. AFR 190 heads are the best, but if you have a 88-91, you could just port those and theyll make plenty of power.

AS84, who did your porting&polishing on heads?
Do you have some numbers on how much material was removed and from where?
I have mine apart and about to go with similar setup.
At what rpm are you shifting?

Hmm..if you wanna run circles around that Z06, throw a 383cid in your C4 with a S/C and you should be able to run FAST! Hopefully, my 383 will find it's way into the vette here in the coming months. :D

I appreciate all of your guys responses. Somethings I need to point out....my current car is or was a ATI Z06 the rwhp and rwtq are accurate in my sig. I am currently rebuilding the LS6 for a Twin Turbo setup. Smog is not an issue for me.

What I mainly want to know before I waste any money modding (god knows I have done enough of it on both of my C5's) is what parts have worked well making power on an L98. I had an L98 in my IROC and it did nothing but blow up when it was stock.

So which Heads and Cam should I put on..I think I seen where Vortec Heads are now available for TPI L98 motors..should I go with the Accel Ram or the LPE???? I heard the quality of the LPE Runners sucked.

Maybe I should do a 383....what block..the 2 bolt main on the L98 gave me alot of problems on my IROC...I hope that this is more specific.

Well where do you want the power (low end or high end), what year and transmission is it?

Accel Superram and Lingenfelter Superram is the same thing BTW.

I've been thinking about a Comp XR276hr-10 224/230 .535/.544 with 1.6 roller rockers, AFR 195, EFI tunnel ram (modified stealth ram or similar), 6" rods, 355in^3, 3.48 forged crank, forged pistons, 11:1 compression, 3.90-4.10 gears 1 3/4" long tube header, 3" dual exhaust with X-pipe. I think behind a 6-speed it would make a great road track car with good street performance. But, I haven't seen anybody with this combination.

If your looking for a more street and 1/4 mile performer (torque), I'd follow corkvette's(?) recipe and build a 406 with AFR's, superram and big cam. ski_dwn_it just finished a similar build up and hopefully tonight we'll see how it ran.

I want more street/ 1/4 mile performance. I have the TH700R..so it will not last long before it needs a rebuild. I want around 400 rwhp and at least 380 rwtq..What about the miniram???

Since you have the automatic, the Superram will do nicely and can make basically the same power numbers as the MR, with slightly more torque and better street manners. In my opinion the MR is made for a high revving motor with alot of rear gear and a 6 speed, but the gearing depends on the cam choice.

An SR 383 can make it deep into the 11s, is that enough power for you?

Thanks Vader...11's would be very cool with an L98. This is the info I was looking for.

AND DAMN you Bill for making me think about spending more money on a different project..I wish I could just leave stock alone.I know once I see your ride that I will want the same....my 91 (35K original miles) has a bone stock L98 w/TH700R and it is just begging for it! :jester

If I go through another series of mods like I have on my last to C5's I will be dead at 36.

Pushing 400rwhp through an A4 will take about 480chp so go with the 383 and a super ram.
