Well it depnds...what are you wiring to(make ,year)? I know the last time I wired anything it was for my Suburban. Most now take a T-type of connecters...no more slicing and diseing.
Do you have a tralier with breaks? Is this part of the question?
If you're not familiar with wiring a trailer, it may be best to visit a RV shop where they can do it for you. I would stay away from the U-haul or Ryder places. If you do it yourself, you should be able to access the tail and stop light wires by simply removing the rear license plate and finding the wire loom for the inside lamps. One tail lamp wire and the left and right turnsignal wires are about all you have to access unless you decide to put back-up lights on the trailer. Run the ground wire to a screw into the crossmember; don't use the ground wire in the loom.
One thing you should also do is to exchange the turn signal flasher for a heavy-duty one. The factory flasher wil only handle the load for the number of bulbs on the car. Adding another bulb (trailer light) wil caus your turn signal flashers to appear very dim and flash much faster. They only cost a few bucks and are a simple unplug the original and plug in the new one.
I've wired my Camaro before which had the amber turn signals which required a box to convert. The blink did blink faster and dimmer. It's the same trailer I will use on the Corvette. 500 lbs. load and all max.
