Default TRACK RESULTS WITH POOR TIMING...

well,im a new vette owner of 20 yrs of age.i bought my vette as a side toy to another car and what can i say!i love it,its gonna be racer#2 of my car family of 2.but i have had it since X-mas time and hadnt' really done much work except whats in my sig below.i bought the car, with a catless front y pipe, hypertech chip and cut air lid.other stuff listed i did my self.i took the car to the track in febuary in 80 heat with not knowing it,had a 195f thermo in it and did have a low temp switch, kindof odd....i found out last week when i did the 160 swap, but,my timing was retarded below stock 6 degrees,it had problems starting, lugged down, poor throttle response and got hot quick.timing was set at 0 TDC.it ran a 14.45@96.i redid the timing to 10 BTDC and now its a whole different car! i mean, like 25hp.its weird,i didnt' know tpi factory motors had that much need of advance.then again,i did little things aside from the timing and maybe the hypertech likes the timing now. im gonna go back with my mods and timin like it is to the track soon!.what do u guys recomend for timing specs.stock or modified? its going to be faster, and faster the more i do to it,i need to know,so i dont' cause my knock sensor to be used,i dont' want to go that far!it honestly feels like a 14.0 the way it stands or......13.99 if i get a good 60ft.did any of u notice an increase in power at the track from timing like i did?anybody have results for me to ponder on!?

I have played with the timing at the track.

8 degs seems to work best on my car.

On my 1990 I could run as much as 9* but i kept it at 8*. Anymore and it would ping when the temp got into the high 80s and above or when the car was the least bit heat soaked. It does make a difference though. How much I cant tell you because it's one of those things that vary but I wouldnt be surprised to see someone who went from 0* to 8* pick up a solid tenth or two, maybe a bit more.
