Default IAC testing?

Is there a test to see if your IAC is working? Can you pull it from the TB and turn the ignition on to check for movement? If so how much should it move?
Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. It makes sense that if you jumpered pins a and b on the maint port and turned the key to on, the IAC should fully extend. I was thinking about doing the same test.

I would not remove it from the throttle body and run the engine. It could seperate into two pieces. Jumper the ALDL terminals A+B and turn the ignition key on but don't start the car. You should hear clicking from the IAC if it is working. What's wrong that you think the IAC isn't working?

I replaced the intake manifold gaskets because of a coolant leak and after that job I have had a rough idle. I've reset the minimum idle and rest the IAC but still rough idle. I took the IAC out and cleaneded it up including the TB. The manual said to push the pintle back in with firm hand pressure but the bugger will not move.

My reason is that when I tune the idle way down with the idle screw, I would expect the IAC to compensate by speeding up the idle. It isn't happening.

I pulled back the spring and then screwed the valve in a little. The spring sets in a cutout on the valve.
