ok guys... need that special GM wrench or other tool to do a job?
call 1-800-GMTOOLS
This is a source for all of the GM specialty tools listed in your shop manual.
I got this from a shop manager that I have been working with on my window problem.
Just thought I would pass this along! :seeya
So, how much did that little specialty window nut tool cost ya? I had to order mine from Kent-Moore SPX (listed in the service manual). I really hope it wasn't much less than $30, or I'm gonna be pissed. Thanks for the info, though. I'm sure I'll be calling them sometime in the future :D
Funny thing is, after talking with the mechanics at the dealer, I wound up using channel locks. they described it as a PITA to get that tool up and on and hold it there after you replace the guide. However they were willing to loan me the tool overnight.
If you want to make a tool for this, take a short piece of 1 x 3 x.125 steel, at one end put (2) - 3/16 holes, 3/4 in apart on center. Thread these holes and install (2) 3/16 bolts and cut them off so that the ends don't protrude more than 1/8 in.
I really should have done more homework on this before I posted my assumtions/ opinions re: obtaining the "special tool". :( The good thing about this is that I learned a heck of a lot about the door /window assembly and my window works now without hitting the "b-pillar". I would strongly suggest that anyone with a window that rattles (when partially or fully rolled down) when closing, check this retainer / guide.

That's where I bought my LT1 crankshaft hub puller/installer -- makes the job a snap in that confined area. Price: $194. For that price, they should have included a spanner tool to hold the crank from turning while turning the screw.
Well, I don't have channel locks either, so I guess it's a moot point. I tried making my own tool using the exact materials you described, but I bent the bolts (they were longer than 1/8 in., that was the problem). Oh well, now I'll already have the tool when the guide stop on the passenger window breaks!
I think I'll reinforce this replacement piece with JB Weld before I put it back on :D Why they didn't make this piece out of metal, I don't know.
Anyone need to borrow a window retainer nut wrench? I'll loan it to you cheap, only $30! :lolg:
