Default I Need help with some codes!

Hey guys.. I am a new Corvette owner and need someone to tell me what these codes mean.. I went to autozone and this is what codes showed up.

P0131- Bank 1 Sensor 1

P0138- Bank 1 Sensor 2

So can someone please tell me what that means and any other info would also help.. The car has been running rough and acts like it wants to die.. It also has a strong smell to the exhaust. Its a 96 Lt-1.

Thanks for any help..

Sorry but I don't have much info on OBD-II systems; hopefully someone will come to the rescue.

My Probst Chevy EFI book says:
P0131=HO2S1 low voltage
P0138=HO2S2 high voltage

Good luck.

:withstupid: I don't have the books for OBDII but it sounds like O2's. Hopefully some one will speak up with the codes for you. In the mean time do a "search" for OBDII codes. :)

Well, I'm not the most knowledgeable person, but I did have O2 sensor problems that I fixed so I will give you the little I know. The codes are stating that the two oxygen sensors on the drivers side is not responding properly. The manual gives a series of tests to run through, because it states that the oxygen sensor may not be the root of the problem, but since you can get the o2 sensors relative cheap (e.g. $37 each), I would change at least one, clear the code and see if it doesn't come back. I changed mine and that took care of the problem. Also, there is a fuse associated with the o2 sensor. Make sure the fuse is good. I go out to worldparts.com to request quotes for parts; that's where I got my O2s for $37.

I looked these up on a website. What should I do first? Should I replace the O2 Sensor's?

P0131= O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

P0138= O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Well ,without a flow chart for the codes, I'd just keep checking your post for someone to jump in with the procedures for the codes. Otherwise your just throwing $ at it in hopes it fixes it. I take it you don't have a set of manuals for the car. That is the very first thing you should get instead of new sensors. IMHO.

I agree that you need the manuals, but the list of things to go through in the manual for me wasn't worth me not spending $37 to see if just changing the sensor would work. Also, you cannot do the procedures in the manual without a scantool. So, if you don't have a scantool and you want to go through the procedures, that's another piece of equipment you have to buy (which is needed if you are planning on doing most of your own work). We already know the problem is in the o2 circuitry on the drivers side. I still say change one and see if that one code doesn't come back. If not, problem solved without buying manual ($125+, scantool $250+).

ZZZASY...I hear what you are saying. No offense here. If this was the only problem that you might experience with the car, that would be an excellent reason not to invest in maunals and a scan tool. On the other hand, if one plans to keep the car for a while, those will pay for themselves in short order as poo poo happens. IMHO

No offense taken. Totally agree with you. I own both the manuals and the scantool.
