Default electrical anomaly

Im slowly trying to figure out whats wrong with my 84s courtesy circuit.
I know theres a short because if I put the courtesy fuse "in" theres a spark,& it will drain the battery over a period of about 3 days.
Anyway what I recently noticed is that if the courtesy fuse is in place the rear hatch buttons in the door panels do not work. But the rear hatch button in the consol always works.
Then with the courtesy fuse out, the door switches for the rear hatch work! & the one in the console always works.
What Im trying to relate is that I pull a fuse out & the door switches work!
Normally you have to put a fuse in to make something work.So there must be some crasy feedback somewhere.
Anybody want to scratch there head with me over this one?
The car is all orginal but high miles, there is no other electrical problems.
I know alot of the bulbs are removed from the interior lighting but figure the previous owner slowed his battery drain by pulling them.
The door map light work & the pillar lights work but the knee kick pads have the bulbs out.I never tried bulbs in there but asume they work.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Greg

It is late, but a quick check of my 87's electrical service manual makes me believe that the diode module located in the rear of the cargo compartment on the end panel has a defective diode in it causing your symptoms. This module has 3 diodes in it.

Thankyou very much,I'll pull the trim panel off & see if I can find it.It makes sense cause a diode only lets electric flow one way.
Thanks for your extra effort looking thru the diagrams.
