I purchased a MAT relocation kit, for my 96 LS1 corvette. But I can not find where the harness should plug into. (not the tempurture reading end - whick I intend to place near the air filter housing - but the electrical harness). The directions speak of a location near the firewall. But I have yet to find the connection port. I know this is a common upgrade, so I hope someone can help.
I'm assuming you mean LT1 since the LS1 is a '97 & later engine. Anyway, the stock MAT sensor and corresponding electrical connector is located on the passenger side of the rubber "bellows" that goes from the throttle body to the MAF sensor.
I did mean LT1, and I am still not clear. I know where the original heat sensor is; in which I wish to re-locate (in front of the throttle body), but the wires currently attached to the stock sensor joins up with a group of others inside a plastic wiring harness, along the engine toward the rear of the engine compartment, and then I have no idea where it eventually attaches (or plugs in). My relocation kit has a male plug at one end and the heat sensor at the other (the part to re-locate). My problem is, once I re-locate the sensor, where do I plug the other end into?
 Good Lord, how long is the new sensor harness?! On the three or four kits I've installed for people, you simply disconnect the female connector from the existing MAT sensor. Plug the new male connector in and route the new "harness" to the where you want to mount the new sensor. The wires from the existing MAT go to the PCM after they disappear into the black plastic armor.
That is what I had hoped for, but the new one has a male connector as does the old connector that pulls out of the old sensor, so no luck there. The wires are very long and appear to be designed to replace the entire old harness. Thanks for the info as to where the wires eventually end up at. I'll try to tackle it today..
I believe the harness is meant to fit many different models. It should be able to go from the firewall to the front bumper (that is to accommodate L98's like mine which have the IAT sensor under the rear portion of the plenum). You might not need the connectors. Just route the cable how you want it, cut both the new and old harness at the same location, strip, solder and wrap the joint and cover with conduit.
