I don't know if they are the same block or not but, I think you can convert to TPI (assumming you have all sensors, harness, pcm, and everything else). I have heard of complete TPI units sometimes going as low as $400 on ebay so, that might save you some $$$. You would probably have to change your heads also because, (don't quote me but) I think the base plate angle is different than the angle of the L83 heads. You can get reworked L98 heads for $1200 or less that would do nicely. As far as cam goes, There are plenty of choices that won't lobe. I personally like the lobe, I asume you want to build a sleeper of sorts. Anyway, I am sure there are others that can help you out better on this subject, as I am also just getting started on my engine. I am keeping the L98 and going with a 383 stroker, Big mouth base and runners, ZZ-x cam, and reworked (as much as possible) L98 aluminum heads. All this comes after I pay it off of course. Good luck with the engine and keep us posted.
Sure thing. I plan on beginning in June or the last of May, due to a few other things I have to finish first. Anyway, I'll talk to you later, and thanks for your help so far.
You would have to install the LT1 computer and harness, other than the challenges involved with that not so simple task there is nothing to it. Not sure what kind of transmission you plan on running either, but that would be another area of challenges.
:iagree:
Rework the Crossfire. You can get serious HP for less than trouble and $$$$ than the LT1 swap would take.
a LT1 engine bolts in where a L98 came out no problem , but the wireing, sensors, ECU in the computer, ignition hook-up, radiator connections, ETC. make this a little harder than a simple swap, now don,t get me wrong it can be done ,its just not a one weekend deal. Id start by finding a wrecked 95-96 LT1 corvette and swapping the complete wireing harness and ECU into the 1985 corvette, it will make the swap MUCH EASIER and most salvage yards will sell a totalled corvettes wireing harness and ECU for only a few dollars too a few hundred dollars (WELL WORTH THE TROBLE IT REMOVES FROM THAT SWAP) I paid $150 for my last wireing harness but it took a full day to remove!! DON,T FORGET TO BRING DOZENS OF THOSE TIE ON LINEN TAGS TO LABEL EVERY CONNECTOR AS YOU REMOVE IT AS TO WHERE IT CONNECTS, a marker that gas and oil won,t make the ink run, AND A DIGITAL CAMERA TO TAKE DOZENS OF PICTURES AS YOU DO THE WIRE REMOVAL TO MAKE THE RE-INSTALL EASIER
BTW theres no way to write all the necessary info on the tag so just write a large number and then write all your info on a large pad with that number on the top of the page and the same number on the back of any photo if you can later when the pictures are developed or down loaded to your computer and printed out http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/36501/
COOL!!! Thanks bro, I'll probably be able to figure it out now, (I don't mean for anyone stop posting here though). Anyway, I figure I'll go ahead and answer some questions and ask some more questions. To start, I plan on using the tranny I have now (700R4), although a friend of mine tells me I'll need to get a different flexplate for it to work, could you please tell me where I can get one? Now, about the radiator, I've been told that the LT-1 is reverse flow of my L-83, so I'll need another radiator, but can it stay in the same place? And, will it bolt in to the place where the radiator is on my '84? Also, could you tell me where I can pick up a good quality cheap one? One last thing, with a little luck, is it going to be possible to get the LT-1 in my vette and make it run with $2000 including the engine, just let me know.
THE LT1 engines to look for are the 1994-96 version because the opti distributor is quite a bit better designed
dont mean to step on any ones toes but its the 95-96 model year that the optisprk system got redesigned. with this system you could also use a double roller timing chane, like in the lt-4's.
