I had purchased one for the front from a closed dealership. And I never used it, it was very cumbersome.
As I recall, we preloaded the front suspension and untied the shocks on one end.
After removing the load on the suspension, there was no longer any load on the spring, it was in free state, it was then removed. This was easier than using the tool.
Not encouraging to do anything unsafe, the whole idea is to have the spring in free state, ie. no energy stored to damage you.
Check with some others to see if this is not a common method for removal.
Oh I pulled a ton of them :D Matter of fact I think I have a tech article on removal of the front spring. You are correct but I still would like to have one :D
