My cluster starting jumping around a while back an continually got worse. I took it out, checked it over, then stuck it back in without screwing it down. One of guys had said that they just had a loose connection. I drove the car around to see how it acted with out it being screwed down so I could push on the corner where the connection plug is to see if affected it. To my supprise it didn't jump around at all. So I put everything back together and it has stopped completely. I think that maybe over the years that the contact points on the connection had gotten dirty, and after taking the cluster in and out those few times swiped the contacts enough to allow it to get a good contact.
Maybe it anyone has this porblem they can give it a try.
PS. The easy way to get that damn thing out is to drop the under dash carpeted cover remove the metal shield under that to access the two bolts that hold up the stearing column, remove them, and drop the column down, remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster trim in, and then you can remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster itself. Its also a good time to clean up the clear cover on the front of the cluster.
