Ok, I picked up a Autometer 3 3/4" tach today to put right infront of my terribly inaccurate tach. All I am wondering is where exactly I should hook stuff up to.
Like the green wire, should I splice into the existing tach wire or bypass it completely?
And where should I hook up the white (12V Dash Lighting (+)) wire and where the red (Switched 12V (source on Fuse Box) ) wire.
I know these are probably really dumb, but I just want to do it right and haven't had much experience with wiring.
Thanks guys.

I believe you need to tap into the tach wire coming from your dist. Should read something like -C or actually say 'tach' on the dist cap. (Assuming you have a L98 and not a LT1/4)

Vanity mirror switched power wire should work for this part. Plus the dimmer should work with your tach too. hope this gets the suggestions started for ya.
Not sure about the wires offhand, but I do have a tip.....get a male-female connector at Radio-Shack with however many wires you have. Makes it much easier when you have to remove it for whatever reason.
Its been years since I hooked up a tach but as I recall you hook up the wire for the dist. at the negative side of the coil. (on the terminal from the coil to the dist.) The switched wire hooks into the fuse box piggy backed onto circuit that is active only when the key is in the "on " position...ie: guage fuse.
Awesome, thanks guys! I was worried this one would just slide away.
The Male-Female connector awesome idea, too bad I checked that post after I tapped into the tach wire coming from the dist.... :smash:
So I, will proceed, it looks like I am going to tap the red wire into the gauge thing coming from the fuse box, and tap the white into maybe a wire that leads to one of the lights in the dash that are trigger by the sensor?
I am going to go down and do this right now, so hopefully I will start up the car in a bit and have an actually functional tach!!! Thanks, I will get back to you guys asap!
Well, I had some one stop by who wanted to check it out while I was about to dig in, and just my luck I found a new adventure. . . :mad
Whenever I hit the lights the door ajar ding goes crazy....so I geuss postponed until I figure out that, don't want to hook up to anything crazy. Thanks again guys, looks like I might still do that male/female connector thing anyway!
Also, what was the route you guys took to get the wires through the firewall?
