I'm getting a set of hooker longtubes for my 383(being built now). How helpful do you think it would be to cut out the center resonator and put two strait pipes in to make the thing true dual, but keep the stock pipe diameter?
Forgot, only $60 to have them removed, and straight pipes welded in using the stock LT1 tips. They did a great job.. Performance Muffler.
Hey, another norman guy. I had mine done there too... $60 (on the '94). Just bought a whole nother cat back from freakmonkeyboy with muff elims already made... sounds good.
Ganey,
Just went and read your post. So what you are saying is for the most bang for the buck on a stock 90 L98, I'd be better off keeping the stock exhaust manifolds and just running true duels out the back with a couple of flowmasters? Unless I go to a new cam or intake, headers won't add much? How much HP will doing this add?
Thanks,
jeff
Call arround to a few muffler shops and ask them. The good ole boys know how to remove the muffs, wrap some pipe so your tips end up in the right place (very important, for looks and reasonance), and weld in in the new pipe. If you re-use your stock tips it'll be under a hundred bucks and will sound sweet! If you want to buy cool chrome or stainless tips, they will likely cost more than the eliminator work.
The mod makes your vette sound like a vette, no real HP gains, but lots of compliments.
Is there resonance with the muffler elims? If so at what RPM?
Plenty. I forget what RPM I had it at in my 95 auto, I think it was when I was at around 3/4 throttle
I have a little around 1800rpm .. but i just have to change gears :). Driving home last night with the back end packed with clothes and stuff, i didn't even hear my exhaust, lol! It was absorbing everything.
