What exactly are they just straight pipes inplace of the mufflers??? or are they a bend around? Where can I get them? how do they sound on a lt4? Are they street legal? damn thats alotta questions. Thanks guys
I had a local muffler shop cut my muffs off and weld on some dual chrome tips. Total cost less than $100 and I love them. I'm constantly getting compliments on how the vette sounds.
Had mine removed three days ago, sound is DEEP and Throaty... a bit louder than my wife appreicates however. Might be due age, one never knows about women. It is street legal here, Oklahoma, at least. It's not quite as loud as a Harley, or rather some harleys I've heard here. :auto:
i did a texas exhaust which takes the center resonater and turns that into a muffler and then you dont have the rear two which is still legal and sounds great and looks awsome and i gained 4 tenths and 3mph :steering:
what if you were to do long tube headers. remove the cats .. the resonator ... and the mufflers?????? would there be suffiecent back pressure??/ :auto:
I am gonna get flamed for this one but backpressure is vastly over rated.... You really dont need any unless all you want is low end pull and sacrifice and mid or top end
I rec. eliminate the mufflers a long time ago. You can get away w/ removing the mufflers because the cats. act like mufflers. Best is no cats. w/ mufflers at end of ex.!
The less backpressure the better.
Something some of you might find interesting. See what many refer to as my Exhaust topic. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/ganeyexhaust.htm
My best friend got a custom made 3" catback with glass packs in the middle and no muffs nor cats. He installed it after he bought TPIS long tubes and the car seemed like a whole different thing, as if it was shooting N2O. The low end seemed the same but mid to top end was scary!
I had mine made with an in-line connection so that I could switch to the stock mufflers for trips and such. On the drag strip I'd say it makes a .2 to .3 difference, and on the open road my head doesn't get beat up when I switch back. Takes about 15 minutes to change. (Now, I'm looking at electronically controlled cutouts to do the same thing.)
I went to the chambered exhaust system offered by MidAmerica. It was half the price of Borla and makes my LT1 sound just like a 67 427 with side exhaust. The chambered exhaust system is essentially the chambered section of side exhaust that has been modified to look factory. It gives you a great sound without losing all of your backpressure. I love it.
