That is the truth nathan. Go to any reputable ocatne booster manufacturer website and it will have such a disclaimer. Each point is a 0.1. I'd look elsewnere if your having problems with detonation. You could always make your own octane boost. Do a google search and you'll find plenty of info :cheers:
You guys are correct 1pt =>.1 octane increase :rolleyes:
Your best bet is to mix toluene and reg gas for the desired octane...
Here is a formula that you can use
octane = (reg gas octane ie 94)(gal of gas ie 5)/(combined gals ie 7) + ( Toluene octane ie 104)(gal of toluene ie 2)/(combined gals ie 7)
octane=96.86 octane:D
You can also add some of the following ingredience to make your typical injectors cleaner/boost....
100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)
This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes :cheers:
I've been using toluene and/ or xylene for years. I found a 20% mix works very well at an affordable cost and when you pull the injectors, they always look new.
Where can you easily obtain these minerals (paint supply store?). Do you need any special precautions/permits/etc. to handle this stuff? The octane here in California stinks (91 is not the typical "premium"). I am aware that some Union 76 stations sell 100 octane for about $5+ per gallon. I added one or two gallons of this stuff to a tankful of premium and it seemed to make a difference but I wonder if it would be cheaper to go the "home mixed" route with toulene or the other stuff you guys listed.
I haven't bought any in two years but found it at a chemical supply house in the yellow pages. Phone around and buy a 55 gal drum and split it with your friends. It was quite inexpensive.
