This happens periodically (a lot). Two dealers have reviewed the problem but come up with no fix. One charged me over $200 to rekey the ignition which didn't solve the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? It's a '95 convertible. The computer thinks the key has been removed from the lock because the passive system does arm and lock the car.
larel, did either of the dealers run a diagnostic check on the CCM for any trouble codes related to the PKE system?
This would be a great fix, if it hasn't already been tried: apply a silicone lubricant to the key and insert the key into the ignition several times, lubricating the key before each insertion. Hope it works.........
Not sure if any diagnostic check was run but dealer #1 in Chicago thought that the switch only needed cleaning which may mean they tried your silicon lubricant suggestion. Dealer #2 in Virginia re-keyed the car to no avail.....but then these are the folks who keep forgetting to reset the oil change notification setting. Guess I need to find another dealere. I'll bring these thoughts up to the Service Manager. I managed to lock myself out of the car the other day which didn't do anything for my personality. Thanks for your help though.
