I tried C&A Zero Gap rings in my 421 when I first built it. I had oil consumption problems. I then tore it back down, changed back to Speed Pro file fits, and the oil consumption problem is gone.
tried them on two ocasions and two different motors and had problems on both ocurances and i would have swore bye them at one time but no more put in a good set of molly rings and forget about it
Wow, I have a set of these on a Pontiac 400 and I love them. No problems and it runs great (much more power than I expected out of the motor). Is it a problem with the LT1 or what? Strange...
Here is the way I see it. A few people including Corky, who really know there crap when it comes to engines are saying NEVER to use them. So I wouldn't.........
Also while the idea of them are great, the risks of oil consumption greatly outweights the benefits, this is how.
A good set of plasma-moly rings properly set up will leak down maybe 1-2% virtually nothing. A set of total seals might pick up that 1-2%, so I have to ask. How much are you really loosing?
See where I am coming from? I would get a good set of Moly rings and enjoy a dependable seal and no other worries. Rings are not an easy thing to swap out. You sorta want to do it right the first time around.
