I have a 1995 corvette coupe with approximately 90,000 miles on it. Last week we had some 80 degree weather. My coolant temp went as high as 254 degrees. Is this too high. Other times it runs fron 197 to about 220. I worry about hotter summer weather; do i need to. I have not done any mods to this vette; it is stock.
Remove your radiator and clean it.I would also flush the cooling system, and install a 160 thermostat.check your radiator cap, hope this helps. Paul :steering:
NO I HAVEN'T CLEANED OUT FROM IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR RECENTLY. THIS WEEKEND MY DETAILER IS DETAILING MY VETTE FROM THE INSIDE OUT INCLUDING THE ENGINE AND I WILL MAKE SURE HE DOES IT THOROUGHLY. THANKS FOR THE INFO!! I USED TO DO EVERYTHING MYSELF BUT SINCE I BECAME A KIDNEY PATIENT I CAN'T DO IT ALL ANYMORE.
I HAVE CHECKED ON MANY TIMES TO MAKE SURE THE FANS WERE RUNNING. I DID FIND THAT I HAD SOME LEAVES CAUGHT IN THE FANS AND CLEANED THEM OUT. ALSO CLEANED OUT THE FRONT AREA AROUND THE FANS. THANKS FOR THE INFO!!
I just cleaned LSpalding's radiator on his 89.. found a ton of leaves and other debris blocking airflow.. coolant temp dropped 10 degrees and oil pressure went up a few psi..
I would first check the coolant level.. then check for air flow blockage.. and then maybe replace the thermostat..

I THINK SINCE THE VETTE IS NOW 8 YEARS OLD IT MAY BE TIME TO HAVE MY RADIATOR AND COOLING SYSTEM CLEANED BY A PROFESSIONAL AND REPLACE ALL OF THE HOSES AND GET A 160 DEGREE THERMOSTAT. I HAVE TRIED MY LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND THEY DON'T HAVE A 160 THERMOSTAT FOR MY CAR. CAN YOU SUGGEST ANY CERTAIN STORE OR SHOULD I JUST GO TO A GM DEALER?

Make sure to tell him about cleaning the engine with the optispark.
Did it get that hot with and without the A/C on? I would make sure the fans are coming on first before doing a thermostat change.
