Default polishing Q:

I just sanded with 600 grit paper and finished with a drill-mounted buffing wheel & final stage grit... how do I get the residual buffing compound off?

I tried rubbing it with a little carb cleaner and it doesn't really want to come off the aluminum (plenum).

Any ideas?

I used white rubbing compound on mine after I sanded it.
Then I used wheel polish. It shines like a mirror. Only took a couple of hours to do the whole thing.

ok, but the polish that I did use left a little bit of buildup/residue on some spots. I take the wheel back over it and nothing much happens. It's shiny enough for me- I just want to get the leftovers off.

what chemical? :D

Buff it with a polishing compund with less oils in it. The whiter compounds usually work for me.

I will wash my Al wheels with car washing soap then you can dry and buff a clean towel.

I use a hand polish (like Mothers) with a polishing cloth. It all seems to come off.
