Default just got back from dyno with my new 434

well its still running with the old chip from the last motor so its running way to rich with these 42# injectors. It was able to get 485 rear wheel H.P ,510 foot pounds torque. The wide band o2 sensor had me at 9.8 to 1 a.f.r up till 4000 then it would go off the scale up to redline.I had to lower the fuel pressure down to 38 psi to even get it to register on the o2 sensor.I will be getting a new chip made very soon.I'm wanting to go to the track saterday if its not rainning.Does anyone no if running that rich will hurt my engine?

Those are some good numbers and should get better with a better AFR.

It shouldn' hurt anything too bad other than plugs etc.

Hope mine is putting out some of those numbers in the mid+ 400 range.

It wont do much damage.... Mainly foul plugs and maybe your o2 sensor..... Nothing major really......

Good luck at the track, those are some strong number.... Tuning will get you many more horses too!

Damn you Skidownit beat me to it... haha

Piston rings are not fond of way too much fuel. You run the risk of it pushing through the rings, washing the cylinders of their oil and mixing with your oil. I'd smell your dipstick for a fuel smell just to be safe.

Typically if the engine is running and your injectors are not stuck open, then you will not have enough fuel filling the cylinder to wash out of the rings, or enough to even get down past the rings.

When the engine will not start and the fuel is just dumping in and not burning at all, that is when you can have problems. Or like I said if an injector is caught open and totally knocking the kernal out to the point the fuel is not burning.

If he is putting out 485hp then something is burning :D

I'd hope so. :D After my stuck injector fiasco I like to side with caution. :)

It is still possible to wash the cylinder wall enough to do damage to the walls at a 9.8 or richer AFR. I would highly recommend waiting until you have your fuel/air situation fixed before you do any more hard running on the motor. After the time and money you had to have put into that motor, I'd err on the side of caution.

If the machine shop used a fine finish on the hone you can do damage. I've learned the hard way.

The crosshatch from the hone keeps oil on the cylinder walls. The finer the crosshatch the less oil you've got to lubricate the rings. There's a balance you need to reach with moly rings. Too coarse a hone and you take the moly coating off the ring face, too fine and you lead to wear problems.

My 2500 miles shortblock now needs to be taken up to a larger piston size. Gas wash will increase the likelyhood of having this sort of problem. I started dialing in the chip from the first time I fired this motor, so I minimized the gas wash as much as possible and I still had problems.

My block was finished with a 400 grit plateau finish. That's a 400 grit stone then followed up with a cork faced attchment. It's great for race motors that don't lead a long life but doesn't belong in a street motor.
