If it's the same belt it should go on. Check the routing again and make sure that it's in the pulley grooves. Try to put it on the alt pulley last. You have to go over the a/c clutch which makes it a little tougher to get back on. What are you using on the tensioner?
Breaker bar probably hangs up before you move the tensioner far enough. Try a serpentine belt tool - you can buy or borrow them from an auto parts store. Makes a big difference with the extra travel. :yesnod: :steering:
There isn't much travel to begin with due to the tensioner hitting one of the other pulleys, but if it's the old belt, there really shouldn't be a problem.
Just be 100% sure it's on the crank pulley correctly, it's hard to see down there and very tight.
