Are you talking about the coil/fin type? Or the useless little one that bolts between your filter and engine block and runs coolant through it?

The latter type comes with the Z51 option, and perhaps other options I beleive.

I have heard good things about the aftermarket coil/fin type. Just depends on brand and specs I guess...

As for the one that bolts between the filter and the engine block...as CentralCoaster said, it's useless.

It was available with the Z51 options for the L98's, but GM discontinued that oil cooler in 1992 due to the feeling that the synthetic oil the LT1 requires does not require the older oil cooler.

If you have synthetic oil, do not worry about one unless you want an aftermarket coil/fin one.
