yeah, but im not going to just drive into a brake shop and have them check it out, then take their advice and do the work myself. its only the front brakes that are squeaking, is there anythign i should look for? will just changing the brake pads fix it, or is there anything else that has to be changed along with it?

thanks!

If they're squeaking, they might be down to the wear indicators (sorry, I just got my Vette, so I'm unfamiliar with the pads). If the pads look like they have plenty of life left in them, then you might try taking the pads out and "rough them up" by doing figure-8s on concrete and scuff the discs with sandpaper. That way you can re-bed in the pads.

Usually squeaking pads mean they're worn. Some pads will always squeak, but only "race" pads tend to do that.

Hope I helped a bit. :)

Pull the pads and check the rotors; if ok replace the pads and some hardware.

You should install new along with new caliper pins & C-clips along with the pads. If you need new rotors you will have to remove the calipses and will then also need new retainer bolts & washers.

Also put a little black RTV on the back of each pad to eliminate rattles and then bed the new pads to avoid glazing.

Why not? Does it makes you feel guilty?

Squeal is usually caused by high frequency vibration of the pad against the rotor. The squeal emanates from the contact surface of the shoe backing plate. Change the pads, and get the blue anti-squeal spray and apply it to the BACKSIDE of the pads/shoes not the side that contacts the rotor. Also check the rotor for cracks and warpage (by spinning it on the hub and watching closely, and clean the rotor thoroughly with brake cleaner, and don't get ANY grease or even touch it. Any of the above on your rotors can cause one or both pads to start squealing again.

It's also possible that the wear tab is rubbing on the rotor, this happens when the pad is worn out and makes a Hellish scream... not the annoying high-pitch squeal like previously mentioned.
