I am running the zz-4 cam in my stock 94 coupe[auto]I love it!Ive ran the hot cam in a f-body appl. w a stick & it was good but to lopey w stock pcm.after it was re-programmed it was fine.I am running the stock pcm in my coupe w stock exh.The car picked up 2-3 tenths & 2.5 mph at the track.I would surley sugest this cam!I run 1.6 on the intake[500 lift] & stock 1.5 on the exh.[510 lift]
Running one in my 90 auto coupe. with headers ported 113 heads and big mouth etc it idles nice at 800 rpm and has ran a best so far of 12.51@111 on bfg d/r before i lost my trans.
It has more in it yet just need to get on a well prepped track and fix the trans and fit my dana 44.
i get 26mpg driving to the track racing and returning home
I say for a mild l98 it is a great cam for the $$$ :D :D
I looked into having a motor built by TPIS for my '86 and they were going to use a ZZ4 short block with thier ZZ9 camshaft and AFR heads. I haven't gone forward with my motor plans yet but it makes me wonder what the difference is between the cam that comes in the ZZ4 and the ZZ9 and if it is worth changing out the cam at all. I also understand that the 8" harmonic balancer on the ZZ4 either has to be changed to the smaller stock one or the frame has to be modified either by cutting and welding or some creative hammer work.
they are both very close in my opinion. the zz9 has the edge at the top end, perhaps 10 to 15 horses more depending on your intake. you can get a take out zz4 cam for $100 the zz9 would cost $300 i guess. doller for doller its a zz4 is great value in my opinion on a mild l98.
