Re: X-pipe help (MongooseLT4)
Check Dr. Gas ( I think it is drgas.com). I used their cross over (X-pipe) several years ago on my old Nova. Going from open headers to a 3" Dr. Gas cross over and 3' Flowmasters picked my car up almost a full .1 and 2 mph in the quarter mile.
When I get around to it, I am going to put one on my LT-4.
What exhaust do you have? I too have TPIS headers and use the 3" Dr Gas X-Pipe. Mine is used in place of the resonator on my Tri-Flow exhaust. I highly recommend it...
Since the x-pipe is not seen, I did not have mine coated. I have had it for 3 years now and it is still functioning fine. They will make you a custom tandem pipe (w/mandrel bends) with whatever dimensions you give them. What they will want to know is the length, the diameter (your stocker is 2.75") and the distance from the 2 inputs pipes (inside to inside) and 2 output pipes (inside to inside).
If I were you, I would wait til you get your exhaust. As it stands right now, you will have to cut out your resonator (unless you plan on putting it somewhere else) and will want to weld the x-pipe in place. If you buy a catback, you can just have the x-pipe built to replace the resonator that comes with the exhaust. This way, you can use the clamps to install it.
I would think they cut out their resonator and put it there. If you are getting long tubes, I'm sure you know you will be removing your cats and will be cutting your exhaust to mate up with the headers. It's possible to put some bullit cats in there but it's a real tight fit...
Here's a shot of mine before we did any welding. That's the Dr Gas X-Pipe in the middle but it's tough to see from this angle. Also notice the 8 inch extensions... that is where the bullet cats would go.
So I would just put on the LT's and cut off everything in front of my resinator and then call up Dr. Gas and Give them my dimentions for a new X-pipe...correct?
BTW Thanks for all your help your giving me
You wouldn't cut off all the exhaust before the resonator. Notice my X-Pipe is in place of the resonator, and there's still plenty of exhaust coming out of the headers and 8" extensions and leading into the x-pipe.
You will need some form of extension (pipe or bullet cat) on the drivers side because the exhaust is shorter on that side and the header collector won't reach it. I cut both of mine to the same place because I was originally going to insert some bullet cats...
I just thought of a great idea....my buddy can make Y-pipes and is a really good welder, I'm going to see if we can't just pick up a bunch of stainless steel pipe and a X-Pipe junction and see if he will do one for me...... I would of possiable like the from the headers to the end of the X-pipe to all be one peice.
