Default TPIS runners install problem

I installed TPIS runners on my 85 with iron heads. The tube on the pass. side that goes from the valve cover to the TB won't fit between the runners and the valve covers. Do I replace the metal tube with a rubber hose? Anyone else have this problem.

Yeah You can use a rubber hose if some of the pipes no longer fit.I ran a rubber hose from the TB straight to the valve cover grommet pipe and it worked fine for years.

You can also just eliminate the tube altogether.
All you need to do is put a plug on teh Throttlebody where the hose would connect, and put an open breather on the valve cover..

As logn as you don't have major blowby you should not get anything out of there, but vacuum. Looks better too..

I'm sure this has been run through the mud before, but wouldn't that introduce a huge vacuum leak to the system? and render the IAC control ineffective?

Yes it will. I've been trying to track down a nasty idle/IAC problem with my IROC since I swapped ECMs last year. I'm finally getting around to replacing my breather with the proper air supply setup.

UH-UH it won't either.

The tube just routes fumes from the engine to the throttle body.
What would be better? Engine blowby fumes or clean air going into that throttle body opening?
Anyway the previous poster said to put a plug on the throttle body port.
No problem like that.

It's just part of the PCV system. The PCV valve is on the other (driver)valve cover.
Air flowing past the "hump" in the plenum generates a low pressure that siphons air through the PCV valve.
When there is low manifold pressure the fumes travel through the passenger side vent tube to the throttle body where they mix with incoming air and get burned.
Putting a breather on the passenger side will keep the PCV system working.

Thanks for all the help. I ended up using some ½ inch radiator hose and a straight hose barb. I used one piece of hose from the TB routed under the runners and connected it were the end of the original tube would have with the hose barb. It looks good.

yes it will keep the pcv system working, but it's still a vaccum leak. When you do have manifold vacuum (i.e. at idle), what's happening? The intake manifold is sucking air out of the crankcase, which in turn is getting it through your breather valve. Your MAF doesn't know this air is getting into the intake manifold. That's a vacuum leak. When I uncap the fitting on my throttle body, because I'm losing somewhere around the same amount of air that my PCV system is sucking through the breather, my car idles better. No matter how you look at it, you're dealing with a vaccum leak.
